Technical Consultant (TC) – Laboratory Services (Program Oversight)
Location: On-site role traveling regularly between our Camillus, Liverpool & Cicero locations
Salary range: $75,000–$90,000, based on experience
Full-time role | On-site presence required
Be part of the team that’s doing healthcare differently.
At Drakos Urgent Care, we’re building a patient-first, high-quality healthcare experience that actually works — for the people who walk through our doors and for the team who cares for them.
We’re a fast-growing, startup-style urgent care that values people who are collaborative, accountable, and committed to making things better. We don’t cling to outdated rules just because “that’s how it’s always been done.” If you’re energized by building systems that actually work — and improving them as we grow — keep reading.
The role: Technical Consultant (TC) – Laboratory Services
We’re looking for an experienced clinical laboratory professional who thrives in dynamic, growth-stage healthcare environments and supports the day-to-day technical oversight and continuous improvement of laboratory operations across Drakos Urgent Care locations.
This is a hands-on, collaborative role focused on supporting quality, compliance, and operational consistency in partnership with clinical and operational leadership. You’ll work closely with the Director of Operations, Medical Director, and clinic teams to help maintain inspection readiness, documentation, and laboratory workflows as our organization continues to grow.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being deeply involved in lab operations, improving processes, and supporting compliance — bringing structure to fast-moving environments and proactively solving problems before they surface.
What you’ll do (the essentials — because lab leaders know what they do):
- Support the day-to-day technical oversight of laboratory operations across Drakos Urgent Care locations.
- Support compliance with CLIA, New York State Department of Health, and applicable regulatory requirements, in collaboration with clinical leadership.
- Help establish, maintain, and update laboratory policies, procedures, and SOPs.
- Contribute to laboratory inspection readiness, surveys, and documentation preparation.
- Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities, including review of metrics, proficiency testing, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate and support laboratory staff competency programs, including initial, ongoing, and annual assessments.
- Support onboarding and training for staff performing waived or moderate complexity testing.
- Partner with leadership to evaluate laboratory workflows, equipment, and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual work, and strengthen lab operations as the organization grows.
- Support timely, accurate clinical decision-making by helping ensure laboratory services are reliable, well-documented, and integrated into patient care.
Who you are
You’ll thrive here if you:
- Are energized by supporting and improving systems in a growing healthcare organization.
- Have solid experience with laboratory compliance, inspections, and quality programs.
- Are detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working within established regulatory frameworks.
- Understand how to balance regulatory requirements with real-world clinical operations.
- Are comfortable collaborating closely with clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
- Embrace technology as a way to improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency — especially through laboratory systems, workflows, and digital documentation.
- Take pride in creating structure, clarity, and reliability for the teams you support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- Current ASCP certification.
- Eligibility to serve as a CLIA Technical Consultant (or equivalent technical oversight role) for the testing performed at Drakos, in accordance with federal and NYS regulations.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical laboratory operations, quality, or technical oversight.
- Demonstrated experience supporting laboratory compliance, inspections, and quality assurance programs.
- Experience assessing, documenting, and supporting staff competency processes.
- Documented experience in NYS DOH–recognized laboratory disciplines applicable to moderate complexity testing, including clinical chemistry, hematology, bacteriology, virology, endocrinology, and urinalysis.
- Strong working knowledge of laboratory regulations, quality control, and testing methodologies relevant to urgent care settings.
- Comfort working with laboratory technology, information systems, and digital documentation tools.
Nice to have (but not required)
- Experience in urgent care, physician offices, ambulatory care, or multi-site healthcare environments.
- Experience supporting waived and moderate complexity testing programs.
- Experience building or scaling lab operations in a growth-stage organization.
- ASCP or equivalent certification.
What’s in it for you
- Competitive pay: $75,000–$90,000, based on experience
- 401(k) with employer match
- Paid sick time and generous PTO
- Discounts on select Drakos services (e.g., weight-loss programs, IV therapy, and more)
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance options
- The opportunity to contribute to improving systems in a growing organization
- A fast-moving, mission-driven environment where your work supports patient care
- A supportive, collaborative team that values quality, clarity, and continuous improvement
If this sounds like your kind of challenge… apply.
We’d love to meet you.
