Drakos Urgent Care is seeking a Laboratory Technical Consultant to support our laboratory operations. This part-time (20 hours/week) role focuses on providing technical oversight and guidance in virology and bacteriology within a fast-paced urgent care setting. The ideal candidate brings hands-on clinical lab experience, a solid understanding of microbiology testing, and a commitment to quality and compliance. They’ll collaborate with clinical staff to ensure accurate and timely results that support patient care. Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide technical guidance on virology and bacteriology testing in a moderate complexity lab
- Review procedures, provide input on test selection, and lead in method validation
- Lead troubleshooting and evaluation of new test methods or instrumentation
- Train staff on testing procedures and conduct periodic competency reviews
- Review and monitor quality control and quality assurance activities
- Participate in the resolution of technical problems and recommend corrective actions
- Ensure lab practices meet regulatory standards (CLIA, OSHA, NYSDOH)
- Serve as a consultant on complex test results and unusual findings
- Maintain proper documentation in support of inspections and compliance audits
- Stay current on changes in infectious disease diagnostics and lab regulations
- Schedule: Onsite 20 hours per week (flexible scheduling possible)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in clinical virology and bacteriology in a moderate or high complexity laboratory.
- Familiarity with CLIA regulations and laboratory quality systems
- Experience in an urgent care or outpatient setting preferred
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and with clinical teams
